6 Steps to Turn Your Wish List into a Do List!

Wishes (1)

What is on your wish list, a biking tour through the South of France, a trek across Nepal or an African Safari? Is it learning to play the guitar, becoming a master furniture maker or reconnecting with family members who live far away? Perhaps it’s stepping up to a bigger job, starting your own business or buying a home for your family? Do you even have a wish list? Here is a good way to start one, what would you first do if you all the time and all the money in the world. Whatever comes to mind first is at the top of your wish list.

Our wishes are the things, experiences and moments that we may dream about achieving someday. Someday when we have more time, more experience, more money or more freedom from the everyday responsibilities that all too often limit the possibilities of our thinking.

Sadly, for too many people I know, these will remain always be just wishes that they will plan on doing at some undefined point in the future and will likely never actually occur. Why? Because wishing is really just a euphemism for something that we don’t really believe will actually happen. Will you really ever be able to afford an Italian Supercar or spend a month with my family, photographing animals in the Serengeti?

Not if all you do is wish upon a star for it. In spite of what the song says, that won’t get you home. So imagine how you would feel if you went from wishing to doing. If you decided today that not only was this possible but that you were going to lay out a solid plan to get it done and knew with certainty that every day you were moving closer towards the thing on your list. Would you be excited, motivated and energized?

Here is how you start:

1. Decide what it is that you want

2. Declare when you want to have it and be reasonable, life is not going to
change overnight. Successful doers, who achieve their dreams, are the
ones who consistently apply a proven strategy.

3. Find and surround yourself with people who will encourage and support
you to get there and eliminate the naysayers, you don’t need that negative
energy keeping you down.

4. Identify the resources that you will need money, time, equipment etc.

5. Map out the major milestones and dates that will get you there.

6. Now take all of this information and post in your home where you will see it
every day

Would you believe me if I told you that was the hardest part? It is in a way because most people never even get that far. The hardest part though is giving yourself credit for putting in the daily effort and remembering what you are working towards. Don’t get distracted by another shiny object along the path, keep your focus and you will find yourself building more and more momentum each and every day.
